Production of sub-10 micrometre cellulose microbeads using isoporous membranes

نویسندگان

چکیده

The production of sub-10 µm cellulose microbeads via membrane emulsification using isoporous membranes is reported here for the first time. Poly(ethylene terephthalate) membranes, with defined interpore distances, pore diameters and straight-through pores were fabricated photolithography. A dispersed phase 8 wt% solution was extruded through pores, forming, due to shear provided by an overhead stirrer, droplets in a continuous composed 2 5 Span sunflower oil. Upon inversion ethanol, coefficient variation (CV) < 45 % produced exploring Weber number (Wed) - Capillary (Cac) emulsion generation space. These results show that can be polymer photolithography, use wide range applications personal care, food drug industries.

Dielectrophoretic investigations of sub-micrometre latex spheres

A non-uniform AC electric field induces a motion in polarizable particles, called dielectrophoresis. The force responsible for this motion is governed by the dielectric properties both of the suspending medium and of the particles, as well as the geometry of the field. The dielectrophoretic properties of sub-micrometre latex spheres have been studied using micro-fabricated electrode structures....

Sources of sub-micrometre particles near a major international airport

The international airport of Heathrow is a major source of nitrogen oxides, but its contribution to the levels of sub-micrometre particles is unknown and is the objective of this study. Two sampling campaigns were carried out during warm and cold seasons at a site close to the airfield (1.2 km). Size spectra were largely dominated by ultrafine particles: nucleation particles (< 30 nm) were foun...

Cellulose Acetate Nanofiltration Membranes for Cadmium Remediation

In this work, cellulose acetate (CA) nanofiltration (NF) membranes were prepared via non-solvent phase inversion technique (NIPS). Polymer concentration was varied from 22 to 25 wt% in order to study its effect on the membrane properties. The fabricated membranes were characterized in terms of morphological analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), contact angle, water content, water p...

Dielectrophoretic trapping of single sub-micrometre scale bioparticles

The stable negative dielectrophoretic trapping of single sub-micrometre bioparticles is demonstrated. Single virus particles, capsids and latex spheres, with diameters in the range 93–250 nm, have been trapped. An estimate for the minimum size of particle that may be stably trapped against Brownian motion is made and the trapping characteristics used to estimate values for the dielectric proper...

Ac electrokinetics: a survey of sub-micrometre particle dynamics

Particles suspended in fluid exhibit motion when subjected to ac electric fields. The applied field results in forces on both the particles and the fluid, the study of which is referred to as ac electrokinetics. The ac electrokinetic techniques can be used for the controlled manipulation and characterization of particles, and the separation of mixtures. For sub-micrometre particles, Brownian mo...
